Welcome to Nuweland Fine Food & Wine, home of quality preserves, wine and meat.Nuweland farm was bought by the Louw family in 1933 and the fifth generation is already living on the farm. We farm with wheat, cattle, sheep and wine grapes.
We strive to make quality preserves and wine in the traditional way without preservatives and additives. We only use quality products in our jars and bottles.
Juan Louw jnr. is the winemaker on the farm. After finishing his studies, he went to work in a cellar on the island of Alameda, near San Francisco. For the next harvest he moved to Nieu Zeeland where he worked in a cellar on the South Island.
His first dessert and red wines were made in a small cellar in Calitzdorp in 2007. Everything was done by hand. All the bottles are waxed and not encapsulated. He is the only winemaker in South Africa that makes a fortified wine with sun-dried grapes that is not fermented.
We want to share our experience of making wine using the methods of years gone by with our customers and friends.
Our farm is situated on the Darling Rd (R315) and can be reached from the N7 or the R27. We grow 87 hectares of wine grapes on dry land and will be planting another 8 hectares soon.
Share with us the winemakers motto "As long as I can enjoy a good wine, I'll be a rich man."
Three flavours, Buchu and Lemon, Rooibos and Lemon, Honeybush and Lemon can be used to flavour your filtered or mineral water, or can be used in the making of cocktails, mocktails and iced tea. These plants are indigenous to the Cape and for centuries part of the medicine chest of the indigenous people.
The plants can grow only in certain soil which can only be found in the Western Cape and no where else. With the development of these products I tried and I am still trying to further the use of our botanical heritage. The raw material is obtained from people who farm with it and has a record of a policy of sustainability and it is not harvested in the veld. Farmers produce these plants according to Ecocert and Gap standards. Lemon and Buchu can be used as a mix with brandy when diluted.
The other flavours in this collection is Lemon and Mint, Lemon (plain), Lemon and Aroniaberry and Passion fruit. Aroniaberry is an indigenous plant from Canada with high anti-oxidant levels
